Bog Oak
Similar to ancient kauri, bog oak is another type of peat-preserved wood, and is harvested from various locations in Europe. The bog oak that we have in stock is from Ukraine; it is 5400 years old and comes with a carbon-dating certificate that verifies its age. This bog oak was growing just as the Bronze Age was kicking off, around the same time that Stonehenge was being built.
Bog oak has been a highly prized wood for centuries, and has a rich history of use in Europe and Russia. It has been used in the making of jewelry, furniture, doors, and even thrones. Its deep brown to black coloring is the result of tannins in the wood reacting with the bog’s iron salts.
