Ring Width Guide – A Visual Comparison

It is difficult to visualize how wide a ring will appear on your finger when faced with numbers such as 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, etc. That’s why we’ve created a visual guide below for both men and women, that will help you decide how wide you would like your ring to be. Each image is independantly clickable, so you can zoom in on the hand to give you a better perspective. We have also included a printout at the bottom of this page that has ring width cutouts that allow you to see how a particular width will look on your finger.

There are many ring widths to choose from, ranging from 2mm to 10mm and beyond. Some retailers and jewelry artisans offer rings that are as wide as 20mm, but the most commonly purchased rings are rarely above 10mm wide, especially when dealing with wedding bands. The images below display the most common widths for both men and women.

Common Wedding Bands Widths

The most common wedding bands widths are between 2mm and 4mm for women, and between 6mm and 8mm for men. With that said, there is no “standard” wedding band width, so feel free to wear whatever width you like best!

We have mentioned this elsewhere, but it is worth repeating: wider rings fit tighter than narrow rings of the same size. This means that if you are sized with a narrow ring that is 2mm wide, you should consider going up half a size if you would like to order a ring that is significantly wider, for example an 8mm wide ring.
