Bubinga Wood

Bubinga, sometimes referred to as African Rosewood, is a gorgeous reddish-brown hardwood with dark purple or black highlights. It is well known for its beautiful color, workability, and unique figure. It is said that bubinga wood is imbued with positive emotional energies. It is a powerful symbol of love, emotional healing, and nurturing care.

Bubinga is a much loved wood. It is often used to make fine furniture and cabinetry, and is also used as an inlay wood. Because the tree grows extremely large, single-piece slabs are sometimes used to make tabletops and other large speciaty items.

Bubinga wood is frequently seen in a variety of stunning patterns. The wood pictured here is from a piece of beautifully figured “waterfall” bubinga – an apt name for wood that takes on a three dimensional appearance and seems full of fluid motion!

Bubinga (Guibourtia demeusei) is an enormous tree that grows around Equatorial Africa. This giant can reach 150 feet high, with a diameter of 6 feet, and can grow as tall as 70 feet before the first limb branches out!
The bark and leaves are used medicinally and culturally in the regions in which the tree grows.
