Mahogany’s color can vary from a pale pinkish-brown, to a darker reddish-brown. It is a very well known wood that is prized for its beauty, durability, color, and workability. Mahogany wood is said to enhance intuition and bring about mental clarity.

Historically, mahogany is perhaps the most celebrated and revered furniture and cabinet wood in the world. It has been used extensively in cabinetry and furniture-making for centuries in Europe and the United States. Much of the highest quality furniture made in the American colonies from the mid 18th century was made of mahogany, when the wood first became available to American craftsmen.

Because it resists wood rot, mahogany wood is often used in the building of boats. It is also used for musical instruments, particularly the backs, sides and necks of acoustic guitars and drum shells because of its ability to produce a very deep, warm tone. Guitars featuring mahogany in their construction include world renowned Gibson Les Paul and C.F. Martin.

Mahogany is a medium sized tree that is found in southern Florida and the Caribbean. It grows to heights of up to 65 feet, with a large trunk diameter of 3 to 5 feet.

Various parts of the mahogany tree have been used medicinally to treat a wide range of ailments, including cancer, hypertension, chest pains, and intestinal problems.
