Our artisan gemstones are custom-cut here in the studio, one-at-a-time, crafted from both natural and lab-created material. Every gemstone is faceted in-house, giving us full control over design, precision, and light performance. From brilliant Montana sapphires, spinels and tourmalines, to lab-created sapphires, emeralds, and more.

What Are Artisan Gemstones?
An artisan gemstone is a one-of-a-kind, precision-cut gem made to prioritize optical beauty over sheer carat weight. In the commercial jewelry industry, stones are often rushed through the cutting process to keep them as heavy as possible. This mass-production approach often results in either “windowing” (dead spaces in the center where light falls through the bottom), “extinction” (blackish dead areas where light isn’t correctly bounced back to the viewer’s eye), or asymmetrical shapes that leave off-balanced light return.
Artisan lapidary takes an entirely different approach. Each facet is placed at carefully planned angles. This process ensures maximum light return, brilliant scintillation, and a crisp, edge-to-edge sparkle that mass-produced stones cannot match.

Are artisan or precision-cut stones better for custom jewelry?
Often times, yes. Precision-cut gems are faceted with a high level of symmetry and consistent, sharp girdles, so they are usually easier for jewelers to work with. They sit perfectly straight in flush settings, bezels, and custom cast rings, ensuring a secure and professional finish.
